Each year, over 700 Fellowships and Awards are sponsored by the Alexander Humboldt Stiftung in Germany to promote scientific research and collaboration around the world in the field of natural sciences (incl. mathematics) and the humanities. There is major funding on offer to support projects.

The Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows
The Australian Association is the national professional Association of von Humboldt Fellows in Australia. Membership is open to any Australian resident previously awarded a Fellowship or Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Visit their website: AAvHF
German researchers sponsored by the Foundation are automatically considered members of the Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows during their stay in Australia.
The Association facilitates professional and social contact between academics in Australia, as well as encouraging new and existing links between members and German researchers.
Who was Alexander von Humboldt?
In 2019, the world celebrated the 250th anniversary of Alexander von Humboldt’s birthday. To find out more about this most celebrated biogeographer and explorer, visit: Humboldt 250 He was first to predict the impact of humans on the climate and is considered the first environmentalist.
Alexander also had a brother, Willhelm, who among other educational pursuits, was a renown linguist and who founded the Humboldt University of Berlin (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin). These two brothers were friends of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller.
Two world wars resulted in these four very famous men becoming less known in the English-speaking world, but their legacy remains significant.
